Common questions

Booking, Timing and Response Times

How soon can you fit me in?

Often same or next day for standard bookings, sooner where the job is genuinely urgent. We never promise a fixed slot before we've heard what's going on, but we'll always give you an honest window when you call.

How do I book?

Call (02) 9160 7653, or fill in the booking form on the contact page if it's after hours. Whoever answers locks in a time that works for you and follows up with a text the day before, so it doesn't slip your mind.

How fast can you get here?

Genuine emergencies jump the queue, and we'll say so on the phone if that's what's happening. For everything else, tell us the day's van run and we'll give you a realistic window instead of a guess.

Do you work weekends?

Standard bookings run business hours, with availability for genuine electrical emergencies outside that. Ask when you call and we'll tell you what's open.

Common questions

Pricing and Quotes

Do you charge a call-out fee?

Getting a sparkie out to look at the job and put a figure on it costs nothing. The bill only starts once you've told us to go ahead.

How do I pay?

You've already agreed to the quote before we start, so settling up happens once the job's done and signed off. Nothing new turns up on the invoice at the end.

How do quotes work?

We look at the job on site and walk you through what needs doing in plain English before anything is written down. Once you're happy with the plan, that's the number that shows up on the invoice, materials and labour both included.

Do prices change once you start?

Only if a wall or switchboard hides something nobody could have seen beforehand, and even then we down tools and talk to you before touching it further. Otherwise the figure you signed off on is the figure on the invoice.

Common questions

The Chatswood Questions

Do you work on heritage and strata properties?

Yes, and it's a regular part of the job around Chatswood's Federation streets. Older wiring behind original features needs a careful approach, and we've done enough of it to know where the surprises usually hide.

Why do older Chatswood homes need switchboard upgrades?

A lot of the Federation cottages and postwar houses on the ridge still run original ceramic fuse boards, built decades before RCD safety switches were standard. Renovations here regularly uncover wiring that hasn't been touched since the house was built. That's when the upgrade becomes non-negotiable rather than optional.

What suburbs do you service?

Chatswood plus the surrounding Willoughby pockets: Artarmon, Willoughby, Roseville, Lindfield, St Leonards and Naremburn.

How local are you, really?

We're in Chatswood and the surrounding streets most weeks, not flying in from across Sydney for one job. Our regular run covers the CBD core and the residential streets around it, so we already know the housing stock before we knock.

Common questions

Safety, Standards and Paperwork

What is a safety switch (RCD) and do I need one?

Plenty of Chatswood's older homes are still on ceramic fuse boards without one fitted to every circuit. A safety switch senses leaking current and cuts the power almost instantly, which is the difference between a shock and a fatality, so we fit them as standard on any switchboard upgrade.

Can I do my own electrical work in NSW?

Swapping a light globe is roughly the ceiling of what's legal to touch yourself. Anything past that is licensed work under NSW law, and skipping that step can leave a home insurance claim with nothing to stand on.

What brands do you install?

Clipsal and Hager switchgear, SAL and Beacon Lighting fittings. We stick to premium gear rather than cheap imports because it's what we'd want in our own home.

What is a Certificate of Compliance and do I get one?

You don't have to ask for it. Any notifiable job comes with a Certificate of Compliance lodged with NSW Fair Trading automatically, confirming the work meets AS/NZS 3000.
